First installations of Simball Box in Belgium
The use of Simball Box is now spreading also outside Scandinavia.
We are happy to announce our collaboration with UZA University hospital in Edegem Belgium.
In mid-March three Simball Box stations were delivered and installed at UZA.
Professor Guy Hubens and Dr Gunter De Win are keen to test their new equipment and have it implemented in their surgeon training program.

Successful first year for Simball Box
Summarizing 2015 we are happy to say it has been a successful first year for Simball Box.
Since launching late 2014 fifteen Simball Box stations have been installed at various Scandinavian hospitals.
Examples are hospitals like Sahlgrenska (Gothenburg) , Karolinska (Stockholm), Karlstad, Västerås, Kristianstad, Växjö, Trondheim, Helsinki and Kanta-Häme.
“The positive user response really inspires to increase our efforts to further develop the concept”, says CEO Jonas Nilsagård.
A marketing & support collaboration with Johnson & Johnson Nordic has been established during 2015.
“The collaboration really enhances our customer support capacity”, Jonas adds.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New year from the Simball Box Team!
Simball Box at Kirurgveckan 2015
Kirurgveckan is the largest conference and exhibition event for surgeons in Sweden. This year’s event takes place in Örebro Aug 17th to 21th.
The Simball Box team will be part of the exhibition. ”We are really looking forward to the event and to discuss the future of surgical training”, says Jonas Nilsagård of the Simball Box team.
”Welcome to our Simball Box station! It can be found in the booth of our marketing partner Johnson & Johnson”, Jonas concludes.

Second training course at Lund University Hospital
For a second time Practicum Clinical Skills Centre at Lund University Hospital in Sweden has used Simball Box in a 3-days laparoscopic training course.
”The overall experience and user feedback is again positive”, says course directors Consultant Surgeon Mikael Ekelund MD,PhD, Consultant Surgeon Dan Sevonius MD and Kristine Hagelsteen MD.
The team means that the quantitative performance feedback that Simball Box enables – training with your own instrument – has a large potential to contribute to improved training efficiency.
Also the real tactile feedback of the plastic models – especially for suturing training – are really appreciated.
”With the objective measurements we can better evaluate the performance of the students. We intend to use Simball Box in future courses”, they conclude

Simball Box at Örebro University Hospital
At a 3-days training course in mid November at Örebro University Hospital Simball Box was used successfully.
”Especially appreciated is the ability to use your own instrument when training along with the possibility to measure your performance”, says course director Consultant Surgeon Lars-Göran Larsson.
The participants also found the tactile feedback of the plastic models superior to the VR simulators. ”We regard Simball Box a promising concept for improving surgeon training efficiency”, concludes Lars-Göran.

Simball Box in 3D endoscope study
Almost all of the 30 surgeon participants have performed three defined training tasks in Simball Box. Each task was repeated and measured five times.
The participants are divided into two groups. The first group started with the 3D endoscope and thereafter switched to the 2D camera. The second group started with 2D and switched to 3D.
A special designed camera arm was mounted on Simball Box to enable flexible and robust positioning of the 3D endoscope (see image).
The main task in the next months will be to analyse all work measurements that are now collected.
”The use of Simball Box in the study has been critical with its ability to quantitatively measure the performance of the participants”, says Consultant Surgeon Johanna Österberg MD PhD.
”It has been a fruitful dialouge with the Simball Box team to adapt the concept to our demands”, adds Arestis Sokratous MD and Per Holmström MD who runs the study.
The Simball Box team wishes Johanna, Arestis and Per good luck with the rest of their exciting study!

Training with Simball Box at Karolinska
The Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm Sweden used Simball Box in a training course on Basal Laparoscopic Surgery Oct 6-8.
”We find Simball Box an exciting new training tool with potential to make surgeon training more effective and measurable”, says Course Director Dr Ann Kjellin.
During the 3-days course the participants trained on various simulators. Each day measurements in Simball Box were made to define learning effects per individual participant.
”With these objective measurements we can better evaluate the performance of the students. We intend to use Simball Box in future courses”, concludes Ann.
